Members make a vital contribution to the operation of the NHSSC. They are local people with an interest in health and social care issues. Members are drawn from district and borough councils, voluntary and community organisations and groups or individuals with an interest in the provision of health and social care services.

Appointments are made by the Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety. A contribution of approximately three days each month is required to attend day time and occasionally evening meetings, visits and other activities.

There is no payment, however, members are eligible for travelling expenses.
